What would you do with a wheelchair and a ramp to use less energy?

This was a physics question. Would the answer be to make the ramp longer? Do something to the wheels to create less friction? Something else?

you actually need friction, but you cant really reduce the amount of energy (if the object doesn’t slide back). because you need to move the same distance, you need the same amount of energy. to reduce the amount of POWER, you would need to increase the length of the ramp, in which you would would increase time, and because power is Work of time, you decrease the amount of power. this makes it easier, but longer to do it. to find work, you would have newtons times distance, and because you are using vertical distance, you would need to find the height of the ramp. lets say your Wheelchair is being pushed up a distance of 1 meter, your wheel chair is being pushed by 10 newtons. now you have a work of 10 joules, but you can make it easier than lifting it by making it spread out over time, so you can have a ramp that you take 10 seconds to traverse, so you would take 1 watt

I would like to know if anyone has knowledge about wheelchair ramps and the duty of Landlords?

I have lived in the same apartment for seven years now. Since we have lived here both my wife and myself have become virtually wheelchair bound. I have asked my Landlord to build us a ramp to allow us access to the apartment but he just changed the subject. As such, I have to leave my specially made, $10,000 wheelchair and my wife’s $4,000 scooter in a small, basically unprotected shed each night and we have no mobility aids indoors except our walkers. Does my Landlord have a legal duty to build a ramp for us, or are we stuck with moving from a home that we truly like otherwise? We just don’t have the money to build one ourselves and we have approached all the service clubs but have hit brick walls.

In America, we have what we call the "Americans with Disabilities Act" which states that employers (and possibly landlords) must comply with providing ramps and restrooms which can accommodate employees who are Wheelchair bound, offering those with handicaps the same opportunities as fully-able bodied personnel. I would recommend looking into whether or not Canada has a similar law on the books.

Before you take a route towards the courthouse, maybe your landlord needs a financial motivator. Do a little homework to see how much building a ramp would cost. Negotiate! If you contribute towards the building of a ramp, maybe he’ll trade with a month or two of living rent-free…as a way of saying, "thank you for increasing the value of my property."

Nobody likes having to go to court. Exhaust all possible options before hand. Best of luck!
